Dr Anna Misztal is a Clinical Psychologist with a particular interest in the relationship between physical health, psychological wellbeing and significant life transitions. Her work focuses on supporting people navigating the psychological impact of illness and injury, work-related stress and burnout, perfectionism and low self-esteem.
Anna has experience working with adults, young people and families across physical health, psychological therapy, learning disability, CAMHS and neurorehabilitation services. She has particular experience supporting people adjusting to illness, injury and changes in physical health, including neurological conditions and acquired brain injury, respiratory conditions, diabetes, cancer, chronic fatigue, persistent pain, gastrointestinal conditions and Long COVID. She is also interested in supporting people around end-of-life issues, death and dying, and other major changes in personal circumstances.
Alongside her work in physical health, Anna supports people experiencing work-related stress, burnout and difficulties with work-life balance. This includes exploring patterns of self-criticism, perfectionism, high personal standards and performance-related concerns. She is particularly interested in understanding how these experiences can intersect and how difficulties in one area of life may influence another.
Anna primarily draws on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Systemic Family Therapy. Her approach is formulation-led and aims to understand psychological difficulties within the wider context of each person’s health, relationships, values and life experiences.
At the heart of Anna’s practice is a commitment to person-centred care. She takes a warm and compassionate approach, aiming to create a safe and respectful therapeutic space in which clients feel understood rather than defined by a diagnosis. She works collaboratively with each person to make sense of their experiences and support meaningful and sustainable change.
